Multipurpose Card

The National Multipurpose card seeks to develop a common platform for a Multipurpose Card (MPC) that enable government to implement smart card without duplicate effort and investment. The MPC implemented through the GMPC and PMPC projects. In result, GMPC and PMPC are the developer of MyKad and Bankcard.


The objectives of the MPC Flagship Application are :-

* to provide government and payment application.
* to improve security convenience of existing and new applications delivered on the MPC platform
* to provide improved services to customer

MyKad equipped with secured 64k microprocessor chip was developed by the National Registration Department (JPN) and ICT agency. MyKad has multiple uses which includes National ID, driving license, passport information,health information, Touch N Go, MEPS cash, ATM and public key infrastructure. The development and the use of the chips based Bankcard with Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS) started in 2000. Bank Negara Malaysia are the main agency to carry out the implementation. The Bankcard contains three payment such as ATM, E-Debit and MEPS Card. The use of the Bankcard means cashless payment. It can be used in retail, vending machines, car parks and transport. The use of the PMPC project (ATM, e-Debit and MEPS cash) started in early 2001. The Bankcard was officially launched on 28 February 2003.
